Today was a pretty uneventful day, other than the fact that we got stripped searched at the border. joking, sort of.
In all my research, I found multiple reports that crossing the border into Canada was relatively easy. You show your passport, your orders, and vet records for the dogs and you would be on your way. Except for us. We were asked to drive into a building, Andrew and I exchanged a nervous glance. A man who looked very similar to Andrew asked us to get out of the car – my palms began to sweat. He began to ask questions like: “What state is this vehicle registered in?”, “Where are you from?” and “Where is your current residence?” These questions are tricky for a military couple, our car is registered in South Carolina but Andrew has an Ohio license and I have a South Carolina license. We just sold our house in South Carolina, so where is our current residence? After feeling satisfied by our answers, Mr. Border Control inquired about our dogs (to which Andrew and I are very versed with these inquiries because of Eli’s uniqueness). He then asked for them to get out of the car – sweaty palms again. Eli is not an overly friendly dog and takes him a while to warm up to strangers (especially men). The last thing we need is him howling at Mr. Border Control. BUT, to our surprise Eli was wonderful – he even kissed him! With a little peak into our trailer, we were ready to hit the open road. whew!
